I’ve always loved travel, languages and writing. These days I’m an international bestselling author and successful travel writer, published worldwide and an author for leading travel companies like Lonely Planet and DK Eyewitness Travel. My writing has featured widely from Newsweek, the BBC, Traveller Magazine, New Internationalist and many more.

A lifetime of travel has taken me around the world, I’ve worked with writers from 145 countries, and I’m a polyglot passionate about language learning and storytelling.

I’m a proud member of the British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) and the National Union of Journalists (NUJ). I’m Irish, living between the Balearics and London in the UK. But you can most often find me travelling!

Nowadays though I am much more interested in slow and green travel. I’m the Founder of The Green Travel Guide (a monthly newsletter focused on green travel news worldwide), alongside its sister website www.greentravelguides.world where you’ll find all things green, slow and sustainable travel-related.

I also write on the art of storytelling, and writing with purpose.

Why I Set Up Travel-Writing.com

I believe that travel and travel writing is one of the most powerful ways to help us better understand both the world we live in and ourselves.

I also believe that anyone with a love of travel and storytelling can build a thriving career as a writer.

Having learnt many writing lessons over the years I want to now share all that knowledge and experience of writing, publishing, travelling and building a successful career in this field.

Travel-Writing.com is designed to provide a wealth of free support and guidance to aspiring travel writers, and to help you get started on your own travel writing journey.

While there is plenty of advice available online, not all of it is written from a place of first-hand experience. Moreover, there is a lot of focus on the art of pitching freelance writing, but less so on honing your writing craft, finding your own distinctive voice and carving out the career that works for you.

I also wanted to create support for writers whatever their writing stage – whether beginners getting started, or more experienced writers wanting to make the switch into travel writing. Having worked with writers from around the world, with experience in publishing and as both a novelist and a travel writer, I wanted to meet writers with support where they need it most.
